ADEPOJU CHAMPIONS NASRDA–DSA 2025 GAMES: A UNIFYING FORCE IN SPACE ECOSYSTEM

In the spirit of sportsmanship, the Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has said that sports remain a powerful tool for promoting unity, teamwork, and mutual respect.

He said this at the official opening of the 2025 edition of the  annual sports competition between NASRDA and the Defence Space Administration (DSA), hosted by NASRDA at its headquarters in Abuja.

The Director General, represented by the Director, Mission Planning and Satellite Data Management, Dr. Abayomi Alaga, described the competition not only as a recreational activity, but as an opportunity to foster mutual respect and institutional bonding.

He urged staff to participate actively and maintain the spirit of fair play throughout the event, and appreciated the DSA for sustaining the cordial partnership enjoyed by both agencies over the years.

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Space Administration (DSA), Major Gen Philip Ilodibia, who was represented by Navy Capt. Ibrahim Gambo, described sports as a vocation with the ability to unite society. 

According to him, the unity of purpose exhibited during the sporting activities show that sports continues to strengthen unity and cooperation among members of the space ecosystem.

Ilofibia while emphasizing that NASRDA and DSA are one, commended NASRDA for sustaining the annual sporting tradition, which will continue to encourage fairness, unity and understand within the space community. 

He encourage participants to play fair and square and to also have fun as this will further strengthen partnership.

At the end of the competition, which involved men and women drawn from both Agencies, the volleyball match ended with NASRDA winning the first and second rounds with scores of 25/15 and 25/21 respectively, while the football match ended 1–0, with DSA emerging victorious, and the tug of war women competition saw the DSA women’s team defeating NASRDA. 

The high point of the event was the presentation of medals to all participants and trophies to the winners of various sporting activities.
