The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has reiterated his commitment to positioning the Agency as a globally competitive institution capable of driving national development through space science, technology and innovation.
He made the remark while receiving delegates from Northwest University, Kano, on a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Director General stated that the space economy is currently the fastest-growing economy in the world, and Nigeria’s space programme must operate at the same level as leading Space Agencies globally, adding that this vision informed the Agency’s decision to host this year’s Africa Space Economy Innovation and Communication Conference.
He further explained that NASRDA was established to promote research and development in space science and technology while serving as a bridge between academia, research institutes and industry.
According to him, the visit aligns with the Agency’s focus on strengthening partnerships that will translate research outcomes into practical solutions for national development.
Dr. Adepoju, while highlighting the Agency’s mandate, stated that NASRDA places a high premium on academic development and remains committed to nurturing talent by bringing out the best in students through strategic engagements with educational institutions.
He assured the delegation of the Agency’s readiness to support collaborative initiatives with the University, adding that the talents and skills of young people are critical to national development and economic growth.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero stated that the institution places strong emphasis on innovation and is seeking collaboration and support in areas of capacity building, as well as other mutually beneficial programmes.
She explained that the Agency was identified as a strategic partner capable of supporting the University’s developmental agenda, particularly in the areas of digitalisation, research advancement and academic excellence.
The visit served as a preliminary engagement to explore areas of mutual interest, with discussions expected to continue toward the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise collaboration between the Agency and the University.
