NASRDA, NESP-GIZ STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP ON RENEWABLE ENERGY AND GIS

The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has said that the Agency is strategically positioned to drive innovation across key sectors through its space-based technologies and technical expertise.

He made this statement while receiving a delegation from the Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP-GIZ) during a visit to the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.

Dr. Adepoju said that, NASRDA has evolved into one of Africa’s leading centres of excellence in space science and technology, with proven capacity in research, innovation, human capital development, and the deployment of world-class space-based solutions.

He added that the Agency’s expertise and infrastructure have positioned it to provide innovative solutions to institutions across critical sectors while strengthening Africa’s geospatial data ecosystem.

The Director General identified renewable energy, artificial intelligence, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), environmental monitoring, capacity building, and data management as strategic areas where both organisations could collaborate to deliver sustainable and impactful solutions.

Dr. Adepoju assured the delegation of NASRDA’s commitment to supporting capacity-building programmes, expanding collaborative research, and developing innovative solutions that would deliver long-term benefits.

In his presentation, the leader of the delegation and Head of Component, Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP-GIZ), Mr. Milos Karic, appreciated the warm reception accorded the team and commended the Director General for his humility and visionary leadership.

He stated that the purpose of the visit was to explore strategic areas of collaboration capable of promoting sustainable energy solutions and technology-driven development.

In his remarks, the Acting Director, Department of Space Enterprise, Dr. Idris Jega, gave a comprehensive overview of NASRDA’s activities, highlighting the Agency’s achievements, institutional growth, and technical capabilities from inception to date.

He also highlighted NASRDA’s geospatial and GIS capabilities and their potential to support renewable energy planning, environmental monitoring, and other national development initiatives.
