NASRDA, OXENTIA EXPLORE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST SPACE TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALISATION IN NIGERIA.
The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has stated that strategic partnerships are critical to unlocking the economic and societal value of space science as well as accelerating the commercialisation of space technologies in Nigeria.
He made this statement while receiving a delegation from Oxentia Commercialisation and Innovation Audit Services at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Director General who was represented by the Director, Mission Planning and Satellite Data Management, Dr. Abayomi Alaga explained that the focus of the partnerships is aimed at bridging the gap between research and real-world application by converting scientific innovations into commercially viable products and services.
According to him, this approach will drive private sector participation, stimulate job creation, enhance revenue generation, and ensure space technologies contribute meaningfully to national development maintaining Nigeria’s place in the global space economy.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would materialise and contribute significantly to the advancement of space technology in Nigeria with positive implications for the country.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Consultant and Head of Intellectual Property Commercialisation Services at Oxentia, Dr. Bruno Reynolds, explained that the purpose of the visit was to assess how innovation management and commercialisation processes operate within NASRDA, evaluate their effectiveness, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Dr. Reynolds emphasized that commercialising research output is essential, because it enables scientific innovation to translate into tangible societal benefits.
He noted that many new ideas and inventions require deliberate cultivation and development in order to become viable products and services that improve lives.
He further stated that Nigeria stands to gain significantly from such efforts, both through positive societal impact and economic benefits, as successful commercialisation of space technologies would generate revenue that can drive national development and innovation.
While appreciating the leadership of NASRDA for the opportunity to collaborate, Dr. Reynolds emphasized that, given the scale of activities within the Agency, NASRDA has the capacity to contribute substantially to national wealth creation through effective deployment of space technology.
