NASRDA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ADVANCE SPACE TECHNOLOGY AS AFRICA'S FIRST FEMALE ASTRONAUT VISITS THE AGENCY‎

‎The Director-General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju has reiterated the Agency’s commitment to advancing space science and engineering for the socio-economic development of Nigeria.

‎He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the founder of DEEP SPACE INITIATIVE, KORA TECHLABS and Africa’s first female astronaut, Sara Sabry, to NASRDA Headquarters in Abuja. 

‎The Director General  who was represented by the Director, Mission Planning and Satellite Data Management, Dr. Abayomi Alaga, emphasized that space technology remains central to national development and global competitiveness.

‎The NASRDA boss highlighted the Agency’s holistic and comprehensive space programmes ranging from rocketry, astronautics, space systems engineering, applications, and ground station operations designed to drive innovation and national growth.

‎He noted that NASRDA’s specialized Centres, departments and laboratories are well-positioned to fit into diverse collaborative areas with local and international partners.

‎Dr. Adepoju assured that NASRDA will explore specific areas of mutual interest where the Agency and KORA TechLabs can work together to strengthen space activities and expand innovation footprints.

‎Earlier in her remarks, the Egyptian astronaut and founder of Deep Space Initiative (KORA TechLabs), Sara Sabry, explained that her visit was to engage with Africa’s largest space Agency, NASRDA, to explore opportunities for collaboration.

‎She noted that KORA Technology focuses on digitizing and customizing Africa’s healthcare systems using African data, with a vision to unify the continent through technological advancement.

‎Sabry added that she had observed immense talent and potential within NASRDA, stressing the need for collaborative efforts that will create opportunities for Nigeria and Africa.

‎She reaffirmed that NASRDA remains the central hub for all space-related activities on the continent while expressing  optimism that the partnership will grow into a long-term relationship that will elevate Africa within the global space science and technology landscape.
