NASRDA, SOUTH KOREAN AGENCY EXPLORE PROMISING AI-DRIVEN SPACE COLLABORATION

The Director General and Chief Executive of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju, has emphasized that international collaboration is essential for harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) to drive national development.

Dr. Adepoju made this remark while receiving a delegation from the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) of South Korea at NASRDA Headquarters in Abuja.

The Director General represented by the Director of Mission Planning and Satellite Data Management, Dr. Abayomi Alaga highlighted that global partnerships play a critical role in advancing space science and technology.

He noted that the meeting signals the beginning of what both agencies hope will become a productive and transformative partnership focused on AI applications in the space sector.

Dr. Adepoju expressed optimism that collaboration with NIPA would strengthen Nigeria’s research capabilities and promote technological innovation.

He added that the ongoing discussions present a valuable opportunity to identify shared areas of interest, especially as NASRDA continues to expand its expertise in AI, robotics, aerospace technology, and space science.

Dr. Adepoju also highlighted NASRDA’s active partnerships with the European Union and China, particularly in agriculture, where AI and satellite technologies are already being deployed for precision farming and environmental monitoring.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the NIPA delegation, JongHoon Oh, commended NASRDA’s strategic initiatives and innovative achievements, noting that the Agency’s forward-thinking approach positions it as a valuable partner in advancing AI-driven space technologies.

He expressed confidence that a formal collaboration would yield meaningful breakthroughs, and reaffirmed NIPA’s readiness to support technical exchanges, capacity-building programmes, and joint research efforts that would strengthen the shared goals of both institutions.

As discussions progressed, both NASRDA and NIPA remain optimistic that a future partnership will not only accelerate AI-driven space science but also contribute meaningfully to the broader technological and developmental aspirations of both nations.
